How to cancel Microsoft 365

Last checked Oct 2026Source: the company's own help page (linked below)

Cancel at account.microsoft.com with the same Microsoft account that bought it. Microsoft checks refund eligibility after you cancel.

Menu pathaccount.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 > Cancel subscription > I don't want my subscription

Steps

  1. Go to account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the Microsoft account that bought the subscription.
  2. Select Cancel subscription (it may say Upgrade or Cancel).
  3. Read the Please review section at the top of the page.
  4. At the bottom, select I don't want my subscription to finish canceling.

Refunds, timing and things to know

  • If you see Turn on recurring billing instead of a cancel option, your subscription is already set to end on the date shown and you will not be charged after that.
  • Refunds: not every cancellation gets a refund. Microsoft says you must cancel first to see if you are eligible.
  • After canceling, your cloud storage drops to the free amount (5 GB, plus 15 GB of Outlook.com mail). If you are over that, you cannot upload or sync new files to OneDrive or send and receive Outlook.com email until you free up space. Family plan members are affected too.

If someone else bills you

  • Bought it through Google Play or the Apple App Store? Contact them to cancel or ask for a refund.
  • Bought it from a store such as Amazon? Contact that store.

Save proof. Take a screenshot of the confirmation screen and keep the confirmation email. If you are charged again after canceling, our billing error letter can help.
